Boils are caused by a form of bacteria which grow in clusters on the skin and cause inflammation around a hair follicle. Several strains of the bacteria have evolved to be insensitive to antibiotics and can in some serious cases cause disease. Burdock Burdock is a member of the thistle family and has been traditionally used for persistent skin disorders such as boils and sores. A decoction can be prepared from the root of this plant which has been known to help boils. Chickweed Chickweed is a common and widely spread weed, growing abundantly around the world. It has been traditionally used fresh as a poultice for boils and abscesses. Rhubarb The root of the rhubarb plant is antibacterial and astringent and has been traditionally used as a wash and a cream to help boils and skin diseases.
